The Arabs of old, before Islam, used the language of tents a lot in their relationships, responsibilities, hospitalities, and homes. This was the case because they lived mostly in tents, and they were constantly traveling in search for new sources of water. The following is list of the Arabic words that this article is concerned with and their literal meanings:
- Thawb, means garment, cloak, cover.
- Libaas, clothes, cover. This is where modern-day words MALAABIS (clothes, such as dresses, shirts, pants, jeans, etc...) and ALBISAH (has same meaning as malaabis) are derived from.
- Mirt, a garment, a cloak, a cover.
- Lihaaf, a blanket, a sheet, a cover
- Again, men and women being LIBAAS for each others is metaphoric. It means that the husband and wife are covers and protectors (in righteousness) to each others. They keep each others secrets, they know each others' intimate secrets and privacies, and they don't expose it to others. For ample more Noble Verses, see: 2:42, 2:187, 3:71, 6:9, 6:65, 6:82, 6:137, 7:26-27, 16:14, 18:3, 35:12, 44:53, 16:112, 21:80, 22:23, 25:47, 35:33, 78:10.
- So the Prophet here was speaking about being with Aisha, in Aisha's home, and not inside Aisha's clothes. Now, it may very well that the Prophet may at one point or another put on Aisha's garment, because the weather was cold or something. After all, we're not talking about bras and under wears here! A garment back them was made of animal skin with wool. This is similar to the husband and wife, today, sleeping UNDER ONE BLANKET. There is no shame in it whatsoever. Now again, the Hadiths in the following Main Section #3, clearly define THAWB and MIRT as LIHAAF (blanket, cover, sheet, protection), which further proves our point about the Prophet, peace be upon him, wasn't at all referring to wearing any woman's clothes. But I say it again, even if the Prophet, in private, put on his shoulders a garment of any of his wives, or if the Prophet slept under the blanket of any of his wives'. Only a silly desperate anti-Islamic would make such a big deal out of it.(osama abdallah)This lie has already been refuted here in article form
